POW! 2021

This year, I was incredibly honoured to have a triple presence at the annual Power of Women festival run throughout Thanet every March.

This year, I produced a print, available here, held a banner making workshop and also chaired the fascinating Women In Design talk with The Margate School and fellow creatives and designers Marssaie, Lynne Elvins of Bristol’s Design Rallyand Joyce Kremer of She Says.

If that wasn’t enough, I also curated a lovely small exhibition at the Margate School – aiming to highlight the art of female and non binary artists who take traditional textile arts as a starting point in their work to explore the voice of protest.

Banner makers, embroiderers and textile artists have existed for time immemorial, creating work often considered secondary in the cannon of fine art as being ‘applied art’ or ‘feminine crafts.’ This show brings together artists currently using traditional techniques as a jumping off point to explore protest, and what that means in this current tumultuous world.

Featured artists were Tara Collette, Taylor Silk, Robyn Nichol, Rosanna McNamara, Jessica Warby, and myself. Have a look through their work here.
